We are a sea tribe who paddle long boats in rough water conditions in the northwest of Spain.

Our playground is the chaotic frontier among the mighty Atlantic ocean and the ancient Galician coast, where it was said, in the ancient times, that the world ended and the maps showed terrifying creatures……

Rockgardens, ocean surfing, currents, cliffs, big swells, uninhabited islands, gale force storms………… Once you have been paddling between dragons, is not possible to paddle like a human again .

It is a one way trip.

Gear

In this post called "GEAR", we are going to speak about the equipment we use in our rides.
The first ones are going to be the:

Flotation Devices

What happend when you break your boat surfing far from your landing place?,  or....

what to do when you crash the boat rockgardening at night in a uninhabited island?

Well, we use duck tape and diferent types and sizes of flotation bags.

Before going for rockgardening or surfing betwen rocks, we inflate all this bags so if the watertight areas of the boat are broken  in the ride, the amount of water you board is much less. The kayak will be still maneuverable and doesn´t go with the deities of the depths forever and ever......

We prefer several small  bags instead of one big one.  They can be adapted easly and there is no problem if one of them is punctured with the fibers.

A paddle float inflatable can be a good flotation device too but...

we like so much the small and very cheap bags to carry wine that you can see in the picture below.

Full of them, your boat will be......

unsinkable !!!

The Dragons´ island: secret places, sacred stones.

Last weekend, THOD were having fun in one of our favorite playgrounds, a small and uninhabited island with numerous reefs.

Hugo was very happy wandering beaches in his first two days trip with the motorhome !!!

The sunday we were trying new locations for the cams on the boats and testing some new equipment.

The strong wind a the currents cause a very confused sea and the navigation is demanding  most of the times.

Since some months ago we are testing a new boat  (the gray one) for the first Galician sea kayak manufacturer: Not Normal Kayaks.
This prototype, called "Bad Boy", will be an all rounder kayak with hard core construction (as we can testify !!!!).
In few weeks you will be able to read something more about the "Bad Boy" in this blog.

Sometimes, the foam pile is like a wall, like a truck that runs over you !!!

We have called this island The Dragons´s island because of its rocky formations that look like giant dragon fangs

The seagulls, the cormorants and the big waves are the kings here during the violent winter but THOD can slip in among the rocks for some hours, paddle the best we know and enjoy all we can.

The bigest waves of the saturday arrived when Fugy was inside. He was hit time after time by the set while he was shouting: yeeee-haaaaaaa.... !!!!

In this pic, he is some meters over Berto and me.

and...................That´s all folks !!!

A present from the Masters.

Thanks very much to Nancy Soares for her generous THOD   introduction in the Tsunami Ranger´s web.

For The Ocean Dragons is a GREAT honor and great RESPONSIBILITY  picking up the torch.

We like consider ourselves as one more link in the chain and we try every day to learn more and more to break the new boundaries of sea kayaking, but over all, we are very proud to be happy into the wild.

We think this is the best  feeling we could to transmit.

Enjoy with the Tsunami Rangers article and long life to the sea tribes around the world !!!
